The OECD (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) defines biodegradability as:
Inherently Biodegradable:
When a product is classified as “Inherently Biodegradable,” it means it will biodegrade to its natural state, when subjected to sunlight, water and microbial activity from as little as 20% to less than 60% in 28 days.
Readily Biodegradable:
Products are considered “Readily Biodegradable” when they have the natural ability to biodegrade to their natural state, when subjected to sunlight, water and microbial activity, from 60-100% in 28 days.
Bio-Solv has been certified by SIRIM under OECD 301C* testing as Readily Biodegradable, and therefore considered ‘Green’.
*OECD 301C
OECD 301C is an OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) guideline for testing the ready biodegradability of chemicals in an aerobic aqueous environment. It is a modified version of the MITI method, which was developed in Japan.
The OECD 301C test is a 28-day test that measures the percentage of a chemical that is degraded by microorganisms. The test is conducted in a closed bottle containing the chemical, a mineral medium, and an inoculum of microorganisms. The amount of oxygen consumed by the microorganisms is measured over the course of the test
To put it simply, the oil biodegrades, since oil is an organic substance.
Bio-Solv acts as a surfactant that is able to break down the oil structure through micro-emulsion into nano-sized particles.
This small size enables locally occurring bacteria to react and consume the oil particles, just as it would through a natural biodegradation cycle.

This means the user only needs minimal PPE, while ensuring no long term effects on them or the environment
- Easy to operate. Bio-Solv is very easy to operate, and requires no extensive chemical handling training with minimal PPE requirement.
- 100% Bio-degradable. In compliance with GS34 bio-degradable standard.
- Non-hazardous to the environment. Studies conducted by third party labs found that Bio-Solv possessed biodegradability rating of 100%. Thus Bio-Solv does not accumulate, and is not harmful to the environment.
- Very safe with minimum health risk. Bio-Solv is designed from the ground up to be very safe to handle, ensuring a safer working condition for the workers.
- Non-carcinogenic. Unlike many industrial solvents, our product does not contain any carcinogenic components (under International Agency for Cancer Research list of carcinogens)
- Non-flammable with no flash point. Bio-Solv is a non-flammable liquid and thus suitable for working conditions with high ambient temperatures. Solvents are prone to catching fire in such conditions, and present significant HSE hurdles and technical complications. Flash point is a non-issue with Bio-Solv.
- Non-volatile. Most solvents are volatile at room temperature, and the dangerous evaporated molecules might be subsequently inhaled by the workers, Bio-Solv is certified as a non-DG and presents no inhalation hazard.
- Highly Effective. Bio-Solv performs on par with current industrial solvents, even besting some when adopted directly into their SOP. Bio- Solv is able to reduce the time required for degreasing action as compared to certain industrial solvents.
- Eliminate direct and indirect costs. Due to Bio-Solv’s safe nature, we can minimize the direct costs such as requiring extensive PPE adornment and indirect costs such as insurance in chemical storage and logistics (which also helps reduce the carbon footprint).
- Non-hazardous to aquatic life. We tested the toxicity of our product and managed to prove that Bio-Solv does not pose any harm to aquatic life.
